"When you run out of spoons.. Make your own!" -Cailleach Dhe ingen Chiarain
In 2015 I left the Eastern Seaboard for the very first time, and took myself to a birthday adventure in California! While there, I attended Caid's Winter Festival of the Rose. There were multiple activities happening concurrently, one of which being Baron Jon Thomme allowing people to pour hot pewter into a soapstone mold of his making, that had been fashioned off of an extent find. His setup was an open-top pitcher over a Coleman propane stove, a lead dipper to pour with, and a large pot underneath to catch the hot spoon or any spillage. We were then allowed to use files and tools to snip excess and make our spoons perfect. This was my spoon.
Having had surgery to my wrist in 2014, I had yet to recover enough dexterity to be able to do this spoon more justice. Even now, in 2021, I am still unable to grasp the fine motor skills needed to complete this by hand. While I will not go back and "fix" this spoon that isn't "broken", I have learned how to use machine tools to help me achieve the final vision of the pieces I make now. I had no idea at the time that pewter would become a medium that I absolutely would fall in love with, even if not done in a Historical Manner.
