Barony of Bhakail, Artisan's Village at Waking of the Salamander
April 19, 2025
I had the BEST time at Bhakail's Waking of the Salamander yesterday! I was asked to be part of the Artisan Village, and to bring my bead making shop with me to share my joy with others. I lost count of how many people came to play and let me guide them through creating their first bead. Thank you all for that honor!
As part of my teaching, I created beads while others watched the process. I made a bunch of random beads, and the absolute best leaf drop I've ever done! There were two lovely ladies who came to visit from Connecticut who didn't feel comfortable with making their own, but gladly accepted the gift of beads made by my hand after watching the process. My heart is full of this art again, and I will not let it be that long between torch times again.
For a moment of excitement, let it be known that my fire extinguisher WAS used, but not for the bead flames! Yay art!
ETA: Noone was injured or burned except a dishcloth being used in a dying project by another artist. My extinguisher was the closest and I reacted to toss it the fastest.
Words from my Pelican, Dame Ysmay deLynn: I am so very proud of my protege, Cailleach! Last weekend, she ran the glass bead making District of the Artisans' Village at Waking of the Salamander. She taught anyone who wanted to learn, finding out their experience levels, and supporting them to be successful. So many happy people left with both beautiful beads and a desire to learn more that we lost count!
