There are no extent examples for our Kingdom's Silver Brooch medallion. This is both a blessing and a curse. I am positively itching to attempt a new recreation of a historical piece, and I was asked to create this medallion for a dear friend. Having the full creative vision to explore, I decided to try a new technique, and echo the dots of the ermine as the accent corners of the brooch, and I'm so glad I did!
I first rough-cut the clay to outline the shape of the brooch, and added the indentations of the "ermine" dots. I then baked the clay to harden. I used my (modern) tools to shape it further, giving me the shape and depth I wanted. To complete the medallion, I created a three-string finger loop braid from pearled cotton thread. This will allow Wentlyanna to choose how she wears it - as a necklace, or a brooch.
